I got my critique today from my teacher and he told me that next weeks assignment is to actually make a sneak cycle. I guess I jumped the gun a bit, but overall he though the animation was really well done. The only thing he had to say was to keep in mind of what the audience is thinking, the character himself, and the story that I am portraying. In this cycle he looks like he's stalking like a hunter rather than a robber. It was a good lesson and good practice. My sneak for next week should look even better.

My 2nd assignment for Traditional Animation class was to animate a falling leaf. I think it works pretty well, but I'm thinking about slowing down the ending or some parts just a bit. Otherwise I think it turned out alright.

I uploaded my first animation assignment with the cannon ball for those of you who didn't get to see it yet or aren't on facebook.

Today in my head study class we learned more about shading with charcoal, went over the construction of the head again, and how to measure things properly. We also went over our master copy assignment. I think my drawing was good, but he wanted more of a complete picture with a background. I guess I thought it was more or a well done study and not so much of a piece you would hang in a gallery. I don't know what I got for a grade on it, but I might go back to it and add a little bit. I still think it turned out pretty well. I at least got something decent looking out of class today and I think I'm slowly improving. Here's Isabelle:

My first assignment in my head study class was to do a charcoal remake of a painting from the 16th - 18th century master artists. One of my favorite classic artists is Michelangelo so I chose to remake his painting of the Prophet Jeremiah. I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of using charcoal. It takes a long time to do these, but they're pretty fun to do. One of my next assignments is to do one of a celebrity so that should be interesting. I haven't quite picked mine out yet, but I might be doing one of Scarlett Johansson. I found some good black and white reference pictures of her that might work.

My first assignment for traditional animation was to animate a cannon shooting a cannonball across a canyon to the other side. The idea behind this animation is to focus on anticipation and squash and stretch. I also think it's to see where everyone is in the class. This was also my first time using a real animation table to do my work and using the pencil test system that they have in the animation lab. I'm pretty satisfied with the results. I wish it wasn't so dark, but I did my drawings in blue pencil and didn't clean them up so that could be why. At the moment, I can't get it uploaded up here. There's always a problem when I try to upload it, but you can check it out on facebook.
My first week of classes have gone pretty well. My drawing classes require that I draw using charcoal and that's a medium that I'm not use to, but I'm enjoying it so far. I just need some more practice with it. The shot below is what I did in class last monday.

I'm finally all settled in at my apartment in San Francisco. I will post pictures later of it or on facebook. My roommate is really awesome and I've met some pretty awesome people so far. I have my first class tomorrow, traditional animation, and I can't wait. So far AAU is amazing. It's everything my old school should have been. I've really been overwhelmed with everything here in San Francisco. It's probably one of the most amazing cities I've ever been to. There's a lot of things to do and see and the school has a lot of activities going on for new students. My roommate and I ran into a few problems with our place not being set up with the right furniture and things like that, but things are all together now. I've been here for a little over a week and can't wait to get things rollin'. I have class on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday so things are nicely spread out and I have 3 classes, Head Drawing, Figure Drawing, and Traditional Animation. In the mean time I'm looking for a part-time job and have sent a few places my resume and reels and stuff. I'd like to have an art related job, but we will see. So far things are amazing and I can't wait to start posting some of my new work that I'l be doing here at AAU. In the mean time I hope you enjoy Quinn.
